What is BMS? (Building Management System)
BMS is an automation platform that centrally monitors and controls the mechanical and environmental systems of a data center. Components such as precision climate control units, ventilation systems, fire detection and suppression, water leak detectors, and environmental sensors are managed within the scope of BMS.
The primary function of a BMS (Building Management System) is to maintain data center environmental conditions within predefined thresholds. When temperature or humidity exceeds a certain level, the system automatically generates an alarm and activates backup cooling units as needed. This ensures continuous optimization of environmental conditions without the need for human intervention.
What is PMS? (Power Management System)
PMS is a software system that monitors and reports on the data center's energy infrastructure end-to-end. Voltage, current, power factor, and harmonic values are monitored in real time throughout the entire energy chain, from medium-voltage switchboards to low-voltage distribution boards, and from UPS outputs to PDU levels.
Thanks to PMS, energy consumption trends are analyzed, capacity bottlenecks are identified in advance, and energy efficiency is optimized by continuously monitoring the PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) value. In critical events such as grid outages or UPS failures, PMS automatically generates notifications, enabling the operations team to respond quickly.
What is DCIM? (Data Center Infrastructure Management)
DCIM is a top-tier software system that sits atop BMS and PMS and holistically manages the entire physical infrastructure of a data center. Advanced features such as rack management, asset tracking, capacity planning, workflow automation, and 3D visualization are offered within DCIM. The biggest advantage of DCIM is that it brings IT and facility management teams together on a single platform.
Processes traditionally handled using Excel spreadsheets and Visio diagrams are automated thanks to DCIM. Backup status is assessed, system weaknesses are reported, and the impact of planned changes is simulated in advance using what-if scenarios.
