Data Center
Diesel Generator and
Backup Power Systems

For your critical infrastructure, we provide uninterrupted backup power with ISO 8528 compliant standby and prime power class generators, N+1/2N redundancy architecture, and automatic transfer systems, offering 24/7 SLA-based service support.

Diesel Generator Systems and Backup Power Infrastructure

In data centers, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems can only operate with battery capacity for a limited time during power outages. During prolonged power failures, the continuity of data center operations depends on a reliable backup power source. Diesel generator systems are essential solutions that meet this need and constitute a critical component of the data center energy infrastructure.

Diesel generators are evaluated in three basic power classes according to the ISO 8528 international standard. Standby power class provides limited operation by activating during grid outages. Prime power class is suitable for long-term operation under variable load and is preferred in locations where the grid is unavailable or unreliable. Continuous power class offers 24/7 operation capacity under constant load. In data center applications, standby or prime power class generators are generally selected according to the project's target Tier level and operational requirements.

Our Diesel Generator Solution Scope

At ALZ Technology, we offer comprehensive diesel generator solutions that meet your data center's backup power requirements end-to-end. We design and implement projects of all sizes, from simple single-generator backup systems to multi-generator parallel operation architectures.

  • Standby and prime class diesel generators (100 kVA - 3 MVA)

  • Multiple generator parallel operation systems

  • Automatic transfer switches (ATS)

  • Fuel management and storage systems

  • Exhaust and emission control systems

  • Cooling and ventilation systems

  • Generator remote monitoring and SCADA integration.

  • Central alarm management and notification system.

Redundancy and Commissioning Time

In data center backup power infrastructure, generator redundancy architecture is a fundamental guarantee of uninterrupted operation. In an N+1 architecture, a backup unit is provided in addition to the required generator capacity; in case of failure of either unit, the load is supplied without interruption. In a 2N architecture, the entire power chain is duplicated to create two independent generator lines.

Commissioning time is a critical parameter. As an industry standard, diesel generators are expected to reach full load within 10-15 seconds of a grid outage. During this time, UPS batteries power the load. At ALZ Technology, we design the redundancy and commissioning architecture suitable for your project's Tier level and fully execute load acceptance tests.

Fuel Efficiency and Operating Costs

Fuel consumption in diesel generator systems is one of the most significant components of total operating costs. Engine efficiency, load profile, and environmental conditions directly affect consumption.

A properly sized generator achieves maximum efficiency when operated within its optimum load range (50-80%); prolonged operation under low load leads to wet stacking problems, shortening engine life. At ALZ Technology, we meticulously analyze the capacity-load balance and keep your operating costs under control through periodic load tests and fuel consumption reporting.

Why ALZ Technology?

ALZ Technology objectively determines the most suitable generator brand and configuration for each project with its manufacturer-independent approach. By evaluating solutions from world-leading manufacturers such as Cummins, Caterpillar, MTU, Perkins, and FG Wilson, we recommend the configuration that offers the highest value for your project.

Our Related Solutions

Diesel generator systems are only one part of the data center power infrastructure. Considering them together with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) infrastructure powered by the generator ensures end-to-end reliability. We recommend reviewing our MV/LV power infrastructure solutions for the continuity of power distribution.
